A workshop where you paint clear cels on the reverse side with ArtCel® materials. It is held at the Loppo Art Materials shop and off-site. Centered on painting, it takes even first-timers step by step from how to use Anime Color (cel paint) to finishing one artwork.

How it works
You finish a cel, pre-traced with line art, using cel paint
Check the tools
Check your tools and cel, and set up your workspace.
Paint the reverse side
Apply Anime Color (cel paint) to the reverse of the cel and experience separating colors and the distinctive cel finish. Painting takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Finish and take it home
After checking the drying and the overlay with a background, take it home as a cel you painted yourself.

About the cel painting experience
Loppo's cel painting workshop lets you experience traditional cel animation production from the days before computers were widespread. So that beginners, visitors to Japan and families can join easily, we provide the basic materials and you can take part empty-handed.
Afterwards you can keep working at home with the same technique, or use How to paint a cel to prepare and review.
Cel painting is the technique that supported animation before digital production. As a maker of cel painting supplies, Loppo offers an experience of completing one artwork while handling the materials.

FAQ
Can beginners join?
Yes. Sessions are run on the assumption that everyone may be a beginner. Of course, those with experience in cel painting or animation art will enjoy it too.
What will I experience?
You will handle Anime Color (cel paint), separate colors, and try the process unique to cels of painting on the reverse of a clear cel. You can take your finished cel home.
Do I need to bring anything?
You can come empty-handed. We recommend clothes that can get dirty. If anything special is needed, it is noted on each booking page.
Where is it held?
Behind the Loppo Art Materials shop, and also off-site. Venues vary by session, so check the booking page.
From what age can children take part?
Any age can take part with a guardian. There are no children's chairs.
Is English support available?
Workshops are held in Japanese, but we can support you by assigning staff who speak other languages or with machine translation. If you need foreign-language support, let us know when booking.
